Breaking Barriers

Moving Forward with 2020 Vision

At the beginning of 2020, we heard all about clear vision in 2020. As the year progressed, many including myself were ready to throw the whole year away. And while I still agree 2020 has brought about many challenges, I believe this year was a year of gaining a clearer vision.

In the midst of 2020, we learned the things that mattered most, we learned to prioritize. We valued our time with family and friends and found new ways to communicate with one another. We learned just how precious life was and that it was not guaranteed. The same people that started this year’s journey with us are not here to finish the journey with us.

As we approach 2021, I believe there is a shift taking place, but if we are not careful we will miss the lessons and opportunities gained in 2020.

We have to move forward, remembering our clear vision, knowing that the same God that kept us in 2020 will keep us in 2021, but now it is important to move forward with clarity, purpose, and passion. Do not allow the mistakes, lessons learned, mishaps of 2020 be overshadowed by the glimpse of the sunlight of 2021.

As I’m typing this I thought of cataracts and how they obstruct vision. It causes those with them to have cloudy vision. When the cataract interferes with someone’s usual activities, surgery is needed.  What surgery does is removes the cloudy cataract and replaces it with a clear artificial cataract. As I was reading more about it, the recommendation by doctors is to wear UV-protecting sunglasses for at least one year. Just like if you were to have cataract surgery, moving into 2021 we must protect our new eyes, as our vision has been cleared and improved. We cannot allow the sun rays of the hope of 2021 to get in our eyes and damage our new vision.

We still have more work to be done on unifying our families, creating lasting inheritances of the legacies of those that passed in 2020, and even bigger, unifying our country. The rug has been removed and it is time now to clean up what has been swept under the rug for hundreds of years. The work is not over, it is just beginning.

Do whatever it takes to utilize your clear vision for the future. The change has come, you are the change.
