Losing a loved one is not easy. We all have experienced the loss of someone in our life, whether it was someone close or not, it was a loss. Recently, I was encouraged to think of the gift of memories. What a gift it is for God to bless us with the gift of memories. Many times we focus on the person no longer being with us, which there is nothing wrong, however, during their time here we were able to share memories with that person. It is important for us to cherish these memories.
I’ve never met any of my grandparents, on my mother’s side, my granddad passed about 2 weeks before my birth and my grandmother died years before I was even thought of. The same is true on my dad’s side, both grandparents passed away years before I was thought of. But I’m so blessed to experience their love and personalities through those they left behind. I love to hear stories of each of them; these stories are like puzzle pieces and I get the pleasure of putting them all together. I’m grateful for these stories. I’ve learned their strengths and some weaknesses, what they value and cherished, what is so interesting to me is many are the same for me as well.
Recently, I’ve been thinking about the memories we are currently creating. My family always tries to get together doing different things together, creating memories. We understand the importance of these memories; we recognize that we won’t always be here so we have to create memories while we can. Creating memories of laughter, good conversations with food, and even overcoming disagreements; we are able to treasure each of these memories in our memory bank to have for years to come. What memories are you creating?
As I’m writing this blog, I’m thinking of the many memories I have with love ones, and that brings a smile to my face. So many memory gems in my memory bank with great people! They have poured into us and we have the memories to keep us going, so we can continue to have them in our lives forever. There is a gift and it is the gift of a memories. Be blessed and encouraged!
