5 Steps to Breaking Barriers in Your Life

Last week, I ventured out and decided to try something new. A coworker invited me to go with her to a spin class. I had seen many videos on social media, they looked great and fun. I love to dance, so I thought this would be great. Got to the class, the staff was very accommodating and helpful, I was nervous. So I got through the class and I learned some things about myself, 1- I am not that coordinated, 2 – you never know what you will or will not like until you try it, no matter the opinions of others, 3 – when you fall (yes, I fell off the standing bike, smh), fear will set in, but you have to conquer that fear, slow or fast, you must conquer that fear. I learned so much just from this one class. I’ve been wanting to share a blog post on the steps to breaking barriers in your life. During this experience, I realized the need for all 5 steps to be relevant in order to break barriers in life.

Breaking Barriers is all about overcoming obstacles in life. Here are 5 steps to breaking barriers in your life:

1. Identity – Understand who you are and whose you are. Genesis 1:27 reminds us that we were created in the image of God. Your identity can be found in him. Jeremiah 1:5, let’s us know we were equipped for what we needed in our life before we were even born and there is a work for us to do.

2. Worth – You must understand your worth, God created you specifically and you are still here with a purpose. Never forget you have a purpose and you are worth so much. He loves you so much and he puts lots of work in creating you (Psalms 139:13-14).

3. Friends – Who are you connected to? Do they build you up or bring you down? It’s important to stay connected to like minded people that will hold you accountable and can build you up. Bad company will bring you down (1 Corinthians 15:33)

4. Mental Transformation – Renew your mind daily. Remember that this is a continuous process, you don’t just have a renewed mind, this is something you have to continue to work on daily, sometimes even by the minute. There will be good days and bad days, but you must continue to push. Romans 12:2

5. Go!! – Now that you know what to do, you know your identity in Christ, you know your worth and purpose, you are connected to the right people that build you up, and you know renewing your mind is constant; GO! Like Nike says, just do it! Fear will set in just like it did for me on that bike, but slowly but surely, you will be able to conquer it, just keep pushing. Faith without works is dead (James 2:14-26).
