Breaking Barriers

Routine is the Thief of Everyday Beauties

When I first got my current job, I was super excited about the new opportunity. One thing I enjoyed the most was my commute, I no longer had to commute for 30-45 minutes (maybe more depending on the day) to work in traffic. My commute is down to 15 to 20 minutes with no traffic. It is beautiful! I also enjoyed the scenery of driving over the marsh. It is absolutely gorgeous to look at, especially when you would see the sun rising over the water, but as time continues everything becomes more of a routine. Go to work, go to the gym, go home, maybe run errands, every day became more of a “routine.” The things I once found joy in no longer serve me as they did before. As things become more of a routine, the things that you used to appreciate you don’t notice as much anymore. I am learning that you have to take the time to pause and enjoy the beauty and the blessings around you.

It’s so easy to get caught up in our day-to-day routines, do this, do that, make sure this is done, and so on. Because of the day-to-day tasks we often get caught up in the tasks of life that we forget to appreciate all parts of it. How the wind flows through your hair, how the sun feels on your skin or even the birds that fly by so effortlessly. We just go through the motions.

Life is moving fast. I often look at my little cousins and how fast they are growing. It seems like just yesterday they were born and then they are walking and talking and now becoming young adults. If you have children I’m sure you can see how fast time is moving. With the loss of loved ones, you come to cherish the little things even more. It has made me more intentional about how I spend my time and who I spend my time with. My goal is to be more intentional about my life’s journey because life moves fast and if you’re not careful it will pass you by and you’ll be trying to figure out what happened and wishing you had done more with the time you had. So I encourage you to be a good steward of your time. Make the to-do and bucket lists, follow the plan, create the business, and the blog, make the call to a friend you’ve been thinking about, and forgive. Don’t let life slip by. Enjoy the simple beauties in each day because soon it will be no more.
